Musselburgh completed the double over Roselea with a fighting performance at Broomfield Park. Credit though must go to the Montrose officals for getting the game on despite wide spread prosponments.
The first half was even with few chances either end. Montrose playing from right to left with the wind advantage and only a booking for Currie was the only note taken in a poor opening half hour. However 5 minutes before the break the game exploded into life after a great run from Dean Woods, into the penalty area and wrong footed several players before finding the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
The second half was only a few minutes old and a second yellow card for Paul Whyte brought the hosts down to ten men, CJ also booked for persistant fouling. A free kick for the visitors fell to Mitchell who hit a left foot shot which hit the bar. Musselburgh played some nice football with moves involving Paul Currie, Brian Murray and Dean Woods all finding each other with lovely crisp passing. Shots wide from Currie and Tansey went close. Player manager Davie McGlynn then came on for CJ and Musselburgh were denied a good penalty shoot when the sub was brought down in the box but the referee waved play on. Another great move involving McGlynn, whose first touch was back to his usual best, he found Murphy who hit a great shot which was well held by Ross McLeod with Dean Woods waiting.Bad news was Paul Tansey coming off with injury replaced by Quinn and Mitchell receiving a yellow card. More subs came from the home team as they tried to add height but Mitchell and Sweeney mopped up easily, and a second yellow for Calum Watson seen Rose reduced to 9 men and a second goal after a great move involving Murphy and finished by Woods.
The match ended with a good away win for Musselburgh who brought their 'a' game with them today even though they were missing several players and they head back down the M90 with 3 valuable points.
Follow Musselburgh next week as they round off a good year with a tough trip to Penicuik.
